PIANO FOR SPECIAL KIDZ
Learning and growing through music
Performances
The 2010 Yes! I Can Awards have been honoring children and
youth with disabilities who have excelled. These awards are
sponsored by the CEC.  More than 30,00 children and youth have
been recognized since the program's inception in 1982.

Greg has been taking piano lessons for three years and works very hard to
excel at playing the piano. Greg recently spoke about how learning to play the
piano has changed him.  What he repeated was that he feels more
worthwhile and has something to offer.  He feels he is a better student
overall and that he's learned why it's important to practice, for the piano and
other life skills he wishes to acquire. He thinks he is more patient and has
learned to take constructive criticism.  He has learned to follow through and
is using it in other areas of his life, like completing disagreeable chores.
Also, even though reading has been difficult for him, he now knows that
practicing reading will allow him to learn more about things he's interested
in, like nature.  He displayed pride when talking about this.  Pride is also
something that learning the piano brought him.

We are very proud of Greg and wish him the best of luck!  As
always, whether he wins or not, he's always a star to us!
Good
luck, Greg!
Tommy, age 9
Tommy is in the 5th grade.  He has been taking piano lessons with Ms.
Dee since February, 2007.  He is also learning to play the violin.  Besides
music Tommy enjoys different sports including soccer, tennis, golf,
swimming and Tae Kwon Do.  He always tries his best and practices
music every day, since daily practice is what makes a successful
musician.
We are so very proud of Tommy!!
POKEMON THEME SONG
Brian has been taking piano lessons with Dee for over six years.  For
many years, learning the piano was very difficult for him.  It was difficult to
remember the notes, to focus on the music, to play with both hands, and
many other things.  Brian tried different kinds of music. Often Brian got
frustrated.  Practicing was almost always an issue. Sometimes he wanted
to give up because he really thought he couldn't learn.  But, fortunately,
mom kept bringing him back because Dee knew he had talent and ability.
Today, Brian is putting together all the things he's been learning over the
years and plays pieces like this Sonata.

Everyone is really proud of Brian!! And Dee thanks mom for not giving up!
Sonatina Op. 39 No. 1 by Frank Lyons
Brian decided he wanted to learn to play Jazz.  After a few months
learning the rudiments of jazz theory, it looks like Brian is well on his
way!
